Tyranny thrives on perpetuating ignorance, yet the internet can save humanity by sharing the truth. Freedom cannot be taken for granted. We are at a crossroads, as a nation, as a civilization.
The public sector should be like a glass house or restaurant with entry through the kitchen. While most of us don't have the time or inclination to keep track, multiple independent evaluators could, then report on relevant details like where the money goes, how things get done and what could be improved. Influencers with tangible purpose, fact checking each other for objectivity and balance.
This open source transparency could be applied to all information sources, with a rating system for each reporter, program or network so we could choose our news source based on objective fact, independantly verified and could also be compiled by preference, saving time for those, like most of us, who have other thing to focus their mental energy on without being worn down by blabla spin.
To qualify as a news program, instead of opinionated entertainment, integrity must be beyond reproach.
Those who lament 'misinformation' point a finger at themselves. Freedom of speech will keep us free. Whoever assails this right seeks to enslave us. Partisan politics is more for the party than the people.
If you are not happy with anything in government, elected or appointed official, you could share your views at a .gov site. Entities who have it together would eventually attract less scrutiny, while the dumpster fires would get more of a spotlight. Preliminary input would be categorized to assign priority with an open comment portal highlighting original ideas, stimulating thought through open discussion. While social media does this to a certain extent, not all platforms are neutral, moderators can be biased. Some may feel satisfaction venting online, yet to move the needle towards change, identify the problem, find the solution, then show enough support so that our lawmakers will take notice and act. Otherwise, it's a cacophony of blabla resulting in nothing but same old same old.
