Industrial farming is an oxymoron. Sustainability over profit reaps long term balance. With a quarter acre, you can provide a good life for your family and better food for your community. Our country is founded on the principle of independence. A diverse food supply is fundamentally linked to our survival and national security. More neighborhood farmers markets with fresher locally grown food is healthier.
By incentivising redevelopment of less populated rural communities where land is more affordable, quality of life will improve. Single family housing could be configured with communal areas to facilitate interaction like a kibbutz where challenges such as childcare could be shared. Young families who may struggle to afford children could flourish with more accessible social resource. Civilization has long followed the multi generational village society concept until recently when the isolated single family model rose in popularity despite its greater financial burden. Life needn't be as hard if we can work together. This could sound like communism and it is, but in a good way. It has become a dirty word as a noble concept used by revolutionaries to seduce the masses, then once in power, utopian aspiration turns into forced submission. By keeping such social experimentation at neighborhood, person to person level, we can communicate face to face and build friendship resulting in a stronger social fabric.
